Eric Volz, an American who was convicted of murder in Nicaragua, will file an emergency petition June 16 with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights against the Latin American country. Volz was suspected of raping and murdering his former girlfriend, DorisIvaniaAlvarado Jiménez, in San Juan in 2006, and his subsequent conviction involved a 30-year sentence. An appeals court reversed the conviction in 2007, and Volz was released from prison that same year.
